We are thrilled to announce that the Haymarket Chamber of Commerce has itself this year been chosen as a finalist in the City of Sydney 2010 Business Awards. This is an honour for the Chamber and an acknowledgement of the efforts of a strong executive. It also recognises the collaborative approach of a proactive group of business people in constantly striving to improve the commercial operating environment for Haymarket.
And three of the area's popular restaurants - Zilver, Mizuya (pictured) and Emperors Garden - have also made it to the finals. Congratulations to these three well known businesses and we wish you all the very best in the finals.
The City of Sydney Awards aim to recognise excellence in business and acknowledge the significant contribution that small and medium enterprises make towards the economic health of the city. The City of Sydney advises that this year 520 businesses were nominated with a record 41,500 votes coming in from the public.

At their meeting on 16 August, the Council adopted the Chinatown Public Domain Plan as a guiding document for future capital works projects that relate to the Haymarket area. The four guiding principles focus on increased street activity, fostering the mix of traditional and contemporary, facilitating festivals and events and improving streets for walking, cycling and accessibility. One of the first projects is the revitalisation of Little Hay Street, Factory Street and Kimber Lane to make them more pedestrian friendly, with fewer cars, better lighting, paving and more space for outdoor seating. Draft designs have recently been on public exhibition and endorsed by Council. Tenders are now being organised with work expected to start early 2011. Read more | |
